Started out as Thierry Guetta, a maverick French film maker and street artist, His witty and irreverent juxtapositions use his ‘tags’ - recurring characters ranging from Charlie Chaplin and Albert Einstein to ‘Balloon Girl’ and ‘the Positive Monkey’ - to create positivity, nostalgia and fun. The backdrops for these characters frequently reference his favourite musicians, film producers, comic book characters and famous artworks, paying homage to Warhol, Haring, Banksy, Basquiat and more. His one-of-a-kind original artworks incorporate a range of elements such as silkscreen printing, stencilling, painting, collage and spray painting. Each one features Mr Brainwash’s personal mantra “Life Is Beautiful” and his thumbprint and is hand signed by the artist and assigned a dollar bill serial number. 2008 held first smash exhibition, followed up in 2010 with Banksy film and a second major exhibition in NY city – Icons – and his start has been rising ever since. With his Life Is Beautiful: Art Show 2011, he funded over 20,000 square feet of space to showcase donated works from around the globe. (Google chose to unveil their Google Music platform here with Busta Rhymes, Drake, and Maroon 5.) He has met with former First Lady Michelle Obama in support of her organisation, “Let Girls Learn”, with Pope Francis in the interest of the Pope’s personal foundation Scholas, and he lends annual support to the Prince’s Trust amongst many other projects. He has twice accepted commissions to paint vast murals on Manhattan walls as a tribute to those affected by the 9/11 terror attacks
