Did Van Gogh really slice off his ear and send it to a lady of the night? Apparently it’s more complicated than that, and rumour has it had something to do with his friend, fellow painter Paul Gaugin (a fencing enthusiast for the record), and moreover an argument they got into. Suffice to say the piece of ear was lopped off and van Gogh (for reasons unknown to this day) did give it to a lady of the night for safe-keeping. This is, of course, all academic, and only serves as admittedly tenuous background information to a brand new summer 2017 reinterpretation of some of van Gogh’s most beloved compositions (with various illustrative twists and turns to distinguish the new versions from the originals) by one of the UK’s most proficient contemporary fine artists, John Myatt. Comprising of 7 framed, hand-embellished and signed canvas limited editions, ‘The Vincent Collection’ is a must-have compositional commodity for any fan of either the Dutch master himself and/or the critically acclaimed Myatt.
