In his time (roughly a ten year period) the great Vincent van Gogh created a total of 2,000 pieces of art which included 900 paintings and 1,100 sketches/pencil drawings. Among these 2,000 pieces are some of the greatest works of art ever created, including the original version of this particular piece. Or rather, the original piece on which John Myatt’s very latest summer 2017 re-creation is based. The latter name might be familiar to you as the much-hyped contemporary landscape art exponent who – before turning a new leaf – was outed as a faker; and subsequently spent time at HMP in relation to. It was reckoned that between 1986 and 1993, the immensely talented art forger, Myatt produced as many as 200 works by a host of 20th Century painters. But like we said, he’s a changed man/fine artist these days, one who has perpetuated his new-found (and legit) means of expression by way of crafting a new collection of van Gogh-honouring limited editions.
